Apprenticeship vs. College

The Other 4-Year Degree

Union apprenticeship programs are a great way to learn a skill, work in the trade, and earn a paycheck!

An apprenticeship is the premier “Earn-While-You-Learn” opportunity. In your apprenticeship, which usually lasts 2 to 5 years, you will work full-time in the field of your choice and receive a pay check with benefits. You will also attend a part-time trade school, all of which is paid for through contributions made by all union employers and union workers. This means, as an apprentice, you do not have to pay tuition and graduate debt-free!

Rochester Building & Construction Trades Council

Established in 1963 the Rochester Building & Construction Trades Council consists of 18 individual construction unions, each with well over 100 years of service to our community. Collectively these craft unions represent nearly 10,000 unionized construction workers in the Upstate New York, Finger Lakes and Greater Rochester Region.

Believing that every worker deserves a fair wage and safe working conditions, our mission is to represent and support the local men and women that build our roads, bridges, schools, and office buildings. These are the talented men and women who build and maintain the historic and ever-changing Rochester Skyline.
